12 October 2019 - Big Church Comedy show with Paul Kerensa

On 12 October stand-up comic Paul Kerensa performed in front of a packed audience of 100+ people, the church building again proving to be an ideal venue for family entertainment. Paul lived up to his excellent reputation with two non-stop 45-minute sessions of jokes and humour - he is another truly funny man. Especially appreciated were his humorous run-throughs of sections of the Bible delivered at breakneck speed with precision and perfect memory. Another really great evening, as part of the church's 150th Anniversary celebrations.

A full line up of talented local performers of all ages entertained, and Holmer Green Baptist Church were glad to support the day with our own stalls at which we prayed for some folk and gave out 150+ leaflets advertising the CAP Money Course -- we were very proud that our own Rachael and Matt Smith were part of the line-up, singing a number of Christian and other songs which were well-received.

23 June 2019 - Church celebrates 150th Anniversary

Holmer Green Baptist Church celebrated 150 years of serving in the village with a special service followed by a tree planting ceremony at the side of the church building, where a Mulberry tree was planted by the oldest member of the church (June Maloney) together with the youngest (Luke Smith). This was then followed by a barbecue which was open to all. A huge number of people turned out including many friends who have moved away from Holmer Green. A truly fitting and memorable occasion!

8 June 2019 - Cream Teas and Plant Sale raises £500+ for local charity

As part of Holmer Green Baptist Church's 150th Anniversary, Saturday 8 June saw the church running a Cream Teas event in the church hall for the local community, the cream teas were FREE but folk could purchase additional cakes and other produce for a modest donation. So many people came it was necessary to put out extra tables and chairs. As they say: 'A good time was had by all'...

At the same time a Plant Sale was being held in the church car park. Whilst the weather forecast was for heavy rain (possibly torrential), we were blessed with dry weather (though a little windy!) and even some sunshine. There was a steady stream of people buying plants throughout the whole afternoon and many went home with plant bargains costing £1 or £2 (£5 for larger plants).

With the donations made at the Cream Teas and the the Plant Sale, over £400 was raised for local charity ROPE, who are based in Amersham. ROPE is about partnering with local organisations and churches in less developed countries to bring about change in their communities which lift people out of poverty. Their work focuses on offering healthcare, education, vocational skills and income generating projects. You can read more about ROPE here - www.rope.org.uk.
