“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor death, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” Romans 8:38-39
I have recently joined Holmer Green Baptist Church to take on the position of Associate Pastor (Feb 2021). Prior to taking on this role, I lived in North Wales in a small village called Mold (Yr Wyddgrug in Welsh) with my wife Zoë. Zoë and I have been married since March 2020.
I was born and raised in Scotland in the small county of West Lothian near Edinburgh. West Lothian is famous for two things: Susan Boyle and David Tennant (I’ve met the former, not the latter for anyone interested!). I was not raised in a Christian household, however, I would go to Sunday School as a child alongside two of my five sisters.
At a young age, I was certainly more interested in watching football with my dad or playing football with my friends as opposed to going to church to listen to a man go on and on about the Bible on a Sunday and when I got to secondary school, I left church and finally got my Sunday mornings back! Then, when I was 15, I was convinced by a friend to go along to the church youth - not knowing I would have to sit through a service beforehand. That evening I became a Christian and was baptised the year after. That same year I felt God call me to ministry and later in life I went on to study for a BA in Theology at London School of Theology (Bible College), graduating in 2018.
The reason I chose this verse from Romans is because it acts as a reminder that no matter what I have faced since becoming a Christian - the trials, temptations and tribulations - God has always been with me and will continue to be with me, strengthening me by his grace and mercy. He has shown me time and time again that He is for me, with me, guiding me, leading me, teaching me and, by His Spirit, completing the good work he has started in me.
